Why dynamics matter

Dynamics are the difference between loud and quiet moments. They create tension, release, and energy. A track with no dynamics sounds exhausting — even if every element is technically correct.

LRA: Loudness Range

LRA is the difference between soft and loud passages over your track. A house track might sit at 4–8 LU. A hip-hop track at 6–12 LU. Ambient music at 12–20+ LU. PRISM scores your LRA against your genre profile (derived from BPM).

Bus compression traps

Over-compressing the master bus is the most common mistake. Signs: the mix gets quieter when the drop hits (gain reduction pumping), transients sound blunted, the mix feels "squashed" on headphones.

Fix: reduce the ratio on your bus compressor to 2:1 or lower. Set attack to 30–50ms so transients pass through. Let the limiter control the ceiling instead.

Genre targets

PRISM's BPM → Genre proxy gives you the right LRA range for your tempo. Use it as a target — not a rule. Trust your ears, but let the data confirm.
